Select an image or a video

You can filter thumbnails by specific keywords in their name or their metadata:
When you assign a background image or video to a style level, VideoPsalm helps you into this task in two ways:
  1. VideoPsalm displays thumbnails in a gallery.
This enables you to visually select the right item.
  2. You can filter the list with keywords into the image or video name, or in their metadata.
This reduces the amount of thumbnails that are included into the gallery, so that you only get presented elements that fit your need.

Method 1. Search in the image file names

Video thumbnails filtered on the word "Red"

Method 2. Search in the image file metadata

VideoPsalm will also search for keywords in the image file metadata, when there is some.

How to add image metadata (= image "category", or image "tag")

To add metadata (for example specific keywords) to a media file, use the Windows File Explorer, for example by clicking the "Explore video folder" menu:

This opens a Windows File Explorer in the folder where VideoPsalm looks for video files:

To add metadata, for example specific keywords, to an image or video file, right-click on it and select "Properties" -> "Details" tab:
Photo
Type-in keywords in the right metadata field.
Use preferably:
  • For images, the "Keywords" property or any other property.
  • For videos,  the "Title" property. Other properties may not work.

Once your files have metadata, you can easily locate them in the VideoPsalm gallery, by typing-in keywords:

Notes:
  • Use the "Title" metadata property fro videos. This is an actual limitation for videos only.
  • Other video metadata properties are not recognized by VideoPsalm, notably the "Keywords" metadata field is not taken into account. Metadata in image files is recognize properly.
  • You may need to restart VideoPsalm after you edited metadata.

Hi,

I recently started using videopsalm at our church. Is there any way to make the background image to fit? If it is large to shrink or if is small to strech? Thanks and God Bless !! Looking forward to the next version.

There are two kinds of images in VideoPsalm:

1. Slideshow images
These are images that you would show once only, for example images taken during a youth retreat that you want to share to the congregation on the next Sunday.
To display slideshow images, add them to your agenda.
The following article describes this task in details:
http://myvideopsalm.weebly.com/blog/how-to-display-a-picture-slideshow-from-within-videopsalm

VideoPsalm always makes sure that a slideshow image is displayed in their entirety, and covers the whole screen:
If the image is smaller than the screen, VideoPsalm will increase the size of the image until the image touches the borders of the screen.
The whole image is displayed, VideoPsalm doesn't cut any part of it.
If the image is bigger than the screen, VideoPsalm will decrease the size of the image until the image is visible in its entirety.
Here again, the whole image is displayed, VideoPsalm doesn't cut any part of it.
Depending on the image and screen ratios, some horizontal or vertical bands are displayed on the screen.

2. Background images
These are images that you reuse from time to time as song lyric backgrounds, or Bible verse backgrounds.
You find these images in the image gallery (Background tab -> Images).
To import new images into the image gallery, expand the gallery and click the "Import images" menu.

Additional resource:
http://myvideopsalm.weebly.com/blog/select-an-image-or-a-video

VideoPsalm displays background images so that the whole surface of the screen is covered by the image:
If the image is smaller than the screen, VideoPsalm will increase the size of the image until the whole screen is covered by the image.
Some borders of the image may disappear out of the screen.
If the image is bigger than the screen, VideoPsalm will decrease the size of the image until the biggest part of the image is visible and the whole screen is covered.
Here again, some borders of the image may stay out of the screen.
These mechanisms are automatic and cannot be adjusted at the moment. Hopefully this will be possible in a future version.
Additionally, VideoPsalm will not stretch any image.

Note that it is always possible to edit an image in Paint or Paint.NET outside of VideoPsalm in case you need to do something special.

At the moment, it is not possible to add some text over a slideshow image. Hopefully, this will be possible in a future version of VideoPsalm.

How/where can I download the list of videos as in your video gallery shown in the two images above

Hi Lawrence,

Here is a list of specialized sites providing media backgrounds:

http://creative.newlifechurch.tv/downloads/
http://churchmediadesign.tv/category/freebies/freebies-backgrounds/
http://www.creationswap.com/gallery?l=1&g=1
http://www.worshipbackgroundsforfree.com/category/nature-worship-background/
https://www.ignitermedia.com/browse

It is also possible to find HD video backgrounds on youtube.

Remark
The preferred video format for VideoPsalm is WMV.

VideoPsalm can display WMV videos on most PCs, notably on Windows 10 PCs.
Other formats (MP4, AVI, etc.) may or may not work, or may even bring VideoPsalm to break.

To convert your motion backgrounds to the WMV format, use a video conversion software like :
http://www.freemake.com/
or
http://www.pcfreetime.com/freedownload.php

This page lists video converter alternatives:
http://alternativeto.net/software/freemake-video-converter/

Warning
Some programs that you download from the internet are good, but their installation contains other additional and optional softwares, even malware!
So read carefully any setup: deny, skip or uncheck all the other softwares the setup proposes to install!
Sometimes these softwares are hidden in the "recommended installation", so always select the custom installation to choose what you want to install.

Hi Carolina,

The preferred video format for VideoPsalm is WMV.

VideoPsalm can display WMV videos on most PCs, notably on Windows 10 PCs.
Other formats (MP4, AVI, etc.) may or may not work, or may even bring VideoPsalm to break.

VideoPsalm has a 30 seconds sample WMV video in its gallery, that displays horses running on a beach.
On your PC, do you get the sample video to play and do you hear the sound of it?

If it doesn't work, use one of the following solutions:

1. Connect loudspeakers to the PC
In case you have a PC, make sure that some loudspeakers are connected to it.
This is not necessary for a laptop, because laptops all have loudspeakers.
There is a bug that prevents VideoPsalm to display videos when no loudspeaker is connected.

2. Your PC has switched to Windows 10 overnight, and since then, VideoPsalm doesn't play videos anymore
The first thing to do is to update the graphic card video driver.
Usually, Windows 10 will update the video driver automatically, but it may take a few days before it does so.

3. Enable the display of other video formats (MP4, AVI, etc.), by installing additional components, called "Codecs", like the ones found here:
http://www.codecguide.com/

Be careful when installing additional codecs, as some codec packs found on the internet may try to install additional software that you don't really need, and are sometimes hard to get rid of.
Note that even with installed codecs, it is not guarantied that VideoPsalm will play other video formats.

4. Convert your videos to WMV, for example with the FreeMake Video Converter application:
http://www.freemake.com/

Did any of these solutions solve the problem?

Hi Harga,

The VideoPsalm web site is up and running, however it is blocked from certain countries or providers.
To solve the problem, use a VPN application that gives the impression to your provider that you are in another country.
For example use the free TunnelBear application:
https://www.tunnelbear.com/
Other people told me about this solution, especially to download the Bibles and the songbooks.

The VideoPsalm direct download link is (version 1.26):

Hello, is there a way display background settings can be set for all in the bible verse ?

Hi Chin-hae,

VideoPsalm uses the concept of cascading style attributes, enabling you to define in a few clicks the style at any level : song verse, song, songbook, all songbooks, base.

Please let me know if the following article explains well enough how to make best use of cascading styles:

How to change the background of a song or a whole songbook - Cascading styles part one
http://myvideopsalm.weebly.com/1/post/2012/02/first-post.html

Here are the basic steps (without screenshots):

1. Display a Bible verse, any verse will do.
This is just so that you see some Bible verse displayed in the preview area, down-right.

2. Click the "Bibles" button, to the left of the "Songbooks" buttons.
This selects the "Bibles" style level.
Alternatively, select this style level in the toolbar at the top-left.
Every style change that you now do will be applied to the "Bibles" style level.

3. In the "Background" tab, select an image in the image gallery.
The preview displays your changes immediately.

4. Save your style changes.

Note that by default, VideoPsalm won't save changes that you possibly do to Bibles.
You have to enable this in the VideoPsalm settings, in the Bible tab.
Then save your changes.

Please follow this link to get moredetailed instructions with screenshots:

Hi there.
Is it possible to file images in particular categorized folders eg Communion for ease of selection rather than searching through many images?
We're really enjoying getting to know the many amazing features of videopsalm. Well done and God bless you.

Hi Phillipa,

VideoPsalm only looks for images into a single folder, it is not possible to categorize images in sub-folders.

However, a better way to categorize images is to tag them:
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/photo-video/how-tag-photos-in-windows-3453085/

What is particularly good about tags versus categorizing in sub-folders, is that you can assign more than one tag to an image.

To assign a tag to several images at once:
1. Select the images to tag (ctrl+click them).
2. Type-in a tag.

To find your images by tags, type-in the tag in the image gallery search field and VideoPsalm will instantly filter your images.

Hi Jani,

VideoPsalm can display videos and their thumbnails depending on the installed codecs.

To display a wide range of video formats (WMV, MP4, AVI, MOV, etc.), a codec pack is required.
I recommend the "basic" K-Lite codec pack, downloadable for free here:
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Bonjour Olivier,

Hi GBI,

Is it a video or an image thumbnail that is white?

If it is a video thumbnail, please add the following codecs:

To display a wide range of video formats (MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, etc.), a codec pack is required.
I recommend the "basic" K-Lite codec pack, downloadable for free here:
http://files2.codecguide.com/K-Lite_Codec_Pack_1375_Basic.exe

If it is an image, please send me the image file as an email attachment at my gmail account, so that I can investigate.

Hi Cobus,

Displaying videos with VideoPsalm 1.23
With VideoPsalm 1.23, a codec pack is required to display a wide range of video formats (MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, etc.).
I recommend the "basic" K-Lite codec pack, which can be downloaded for free here :
https://files3.codecguide.com/K-Lite_Codec_Pack_1500_Basic.exe
Once the codec pack is installed, VideoPsalm will no longer crash while displaying videos.

Viewing videos with VideoPsalm 1.26
VideoPsalm 1.26 can display a wide range of video formats (MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, etc.).
You can download VideoPsalm 1.26 here:
http://bit.ly/VideoPsalm_1_26_Setup

The long link is as follows:
http://www.videopsalm.org/download/VideoPsalmInstall_1_26.msi

VideoPsalm 1.26 is compatible with 1.23.

VideoPsalm version history:
https://myvideopsalm.weebly.com/history.html

In case of a video display problem, if possible, please let me know:
1. the version of VideoPsalm you are using.
2. the PC CPU
3. The version of WIndows you have.
4. If possible, send me a video that doesn't play in VideoPsalm, or a link to it.
