How to display verses from two different Bible translations on the same slide

  • Display Bible verses quickly, the way you want them to be (bilingual, several verses on one slide, etc.)

First method: Systematic bilingual display

This method enables the systematic display of one (or more) additional Bible translations.
Lets consider that you always want to display the French translation under your English translation.

To set the French Bible as an additional translation that will always be displayed under any other translation:

  • Click the French Bible:
Picture

  • The middle panel now displays the Bible properties.
Select the highlighted checkbox ("Always dual-display"):
Picture
From now on, any Bible verse will automatically be displayed in conjunction with the corresponding verse in this Bible:
Picture
To add another Bible translation, repeat the operation.
The order in which the additional translations appear on screen is dictated by their "Position" property:
Picture
Save the changes that you did to your Bibles:
Picture
Note that per default, VideoPsalm will silently ignore to save changes that you do to Bibles.
You have to first enable this in the options:
Picture

Second method: ad hoc (impromptu) bilingual display

This method enables the ad hoc display of Bible verses in two or more translations.
The same method applies to displaying song lyrics in two languages.

Let's display Romans 3:19-24 in the NIV (English translation) and in the Colombe (French translation).

Step 1: Proceed like usual: Select the Bible translation verses by typing their reference into the search field, and add them to the agenda:
Picture
Click on the “Bibles” tab, click on the “NIV” Bible and type the reference of the Bible verses to display (Romains 3.19-24) into the search field.
Then click on the “Add” button to add the verse selection to the agenda.
Picture
You end up with the NIV Bible verses into your agenda:
Picture

Step 2: Select the second Bible (French Colombe) and then click again on the “Add” button, to add the same verses to the agenda.
Picture
Click on the second Bible then click on the “Add” button.
Note: When you select another Bible, VideoPsalm keeps the same selected verses: you don't need to type the Bible reference again.

You end up with two Bible verses selections in the agenda:
Picture

Step 3: Now comes the important point:
Link the first Bible verse selection (NIV) with the next one (Colombe), like so:
Picture
When you display the NIV verses, they now get displayed with the Colombe corresponding verses:
These steps can be done even during the service, as they require only a few seconds and do not interfere with the current presentation progress if you activate the shield icon.

Optional  To help the people to visually dissociate both translations on the screen, assign a specific style to the additional translation, for example another text color and font.
  • Click on the French Bible to select it (or any Bible for this purpose).
Make sure that the style level is set to "Bible":
Picture
Then, select another text color, for example yellow:
Picture
Additionally, set the text to italic.
You will get the following display:
Photo
The same principle works for songs:
Photo
It is also possible to highlight some words or phrases:

I've recently started using the videopsalm software and it's amazing. God bless and continue to elevate everyone involved in the development and implementation and maintenance of the software. Amen. I want to ask if there's an Igbo translation of the bible. Need it for our multicultural church. Thank you.

@Michael,
Thank you for asking!
As per your wish, the Igbo Bible translation will be added hopefully in the next batch of new documents available in the VideoPsalm Online Library. This may take two or three weeks of time if everything goes well, VideoPsalm will inform you with a toast of the availability of the new Bibles, when you start it.

I have had the opportunity to peruse similar Church Presentation Software. I must admit VideoPsalm is right on top of my list. It's a great job you guys have done. God richly bless you.

Anyway, it seems your Bible Versions excludes the Apocryphal (Deutero-canonical) books. It will be amazing to have Bibles with these books included in them. This will come very handy for Catholics, Orthodox and other denominations that uses these Books. Anyway, is it possible to have a Bible in Akan?

Thank you, God bless

First of all. Great program!! As a programmer I can truly appreciate how much hard work that must have went into this.

Second, is there anyway to create a bilingual songbook? So this way we can load in a songbook and it will automatically connect the two songs together?

Hello Nilesh,

The feature you request is currently not available as of version 1.13.

This feature implies that you at least have two songbooks that have exactly the same songs with exactly the same verses, except that they are in two different languages.
Do you know of any such songbooks?

The next version of VideoPsalm, 1.14, will enable one or more Bibles to be displayed automatically when you display some other Bible verses.
This feature makes sense for Bibles, much more than for songbooks, because every translation of the Bible has the exact same corresponding verses.

To display bilingual songs, the recommended way is to add into the agenda the two songs that you want to display together, and link them like explained in this very blog post.

Thanks

Marc

PS. I sent you an email to the address that you gave through the VideoPsalm contact form.

Hey Marc,

Sorry, I didn't see this till now.

Currently we do have a web version of our hymnal that offers over 500 songs with phonetic translation.

You can view the site here : www.bhajansangrah,com

Here is an example of a song : http://www.bhajansangrah.com/index.php?title=9

We still have to figure out how to extract that information into an easy to integrate text file for VideoPsalm but thats a work in progress.

But yea, having a connected songbook would be great. This will allow us to just queue in a song number and have the song popup.

Sorry for not seeing your response from the 25. of February until now.
I looked at the site with the songs (www.bhajansangrah.com) and it looks great. Let me know (via the contact form or per email) if I can help you in any way to get these songs into VideoPsalm.

Thank you very much for this great program. We are currently using Powerpoint to display songs and most of our songs are bilingual. With VideoPsalm, I tried to create two Songbooks, one in Indian language (with Indian font) and another one for English (with English font).

I added both to the agenda, one after the other and chose the option to display with the next. When it appears, both are appearing in the first song's font. Am I doing something wrong?

If I choose Indian language first, both the songs are displayed in its font. Is it a problem or my mistake. (I hope it is the second one)

Thank you, Binu

Hello Binu,
I am afraid that, like you found out, bilingual slides always display with the font of the first song.
The recommended way to make this work in VideoPsalm at the moment is to use a Unicode font. Unicode fonts can display every character of the world, including Indian mixed with English characters.
Please tell me if I am right, but I believe that, for historical reasons, Indian speaking people use a font that enable English character combinations to display like Indian characters, but these fonts are unable to display English characters.
However, this method of encoding Indian text is currently not supported in VideoPsalm, especially when displaying bilingual songs.
Please use some free online Unicode encoding program to convert your Indian encoded lyrics into Unicode lyrics.
For example, use this free service:
http://www.suratha.com/reader.htm

Please contact me via VideoPsalm's contact form, where you can submit your email address in all privacy, for more detail:

Dear Marc,

Thank you very much for the response. Do you have any plan to include this feature in the future? What I understood from your note is that, I have to convert the Indian language song to Unicode one. If I display Unicode song with corresponding English version, both would be displayed correctly.

Dear Binu,
Yes, if you display a Unicode song with the corresponding English version, both will be displayed correctly.
Which font do you use to display Indian songs?
Could you please send me a VideoPsalm agenda as an email attachment at gmail, so that I can investigate the case further?
Yes, there is plan to include multiple font attributes in a single slide.

This is surely a good program.

Am just wondering if one can compare two different scriptures from different references on the same slide. Say for example Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1.

Thanks.

Hello Sam,

VideoPsalm uses all the available screen space for the presentation screen. This is by design.
However, I am not sure that I understand your question properly.

In case your question concerns the size of the slide text areas:
There are three text areas: Body, header and footer.
These text areas can be resized.
Let me know if the following article answers your question:

Hi. I'm currently using Opensong, but am looking for another program where I can enter "spontaneous slides" during the worship will presenting and also add songs that were not originally on the set list, all during presenting. In addition, I'm looking for a program that also allows for bilingual songs.

Based on what I've read from your website, your program offers all of the above. Is that correct? i'm really not a media person, but until we get someone who is, I"m serving in this capacity. So any help you could offer in the future would be great!

My question is this, I read some above comments about the bilingual songs. I'd like to have English with the Czech translation in a different font or in italics, or smaller print. some way to know that that is the translation, but not actually the words we are singing. Does your program have this capability? and if so, how would i do this? Do i need to create 2 songs, one in each language and link them? or can i some how notate on the english song which lines are to be in the 'translation' font?

thanks so much for doing this! SO helpful!

Hi Uyiabraham,

VideoPsalm uses the concept of hierarchical style attributes, enabling you to define the default settings at any level : song verse, song, songbook, all songbooks, base, Bibles, Bible, etc.

To assign the same image to all Bible verses:

1. Click the "Bibles" button (to the right of the "Songbooks" button). This will automatically select the "Bibles" style level.
Alternatively, select the "Bibles" style level in the "Style level" dropdown, in the toolbar on the top left.

2. Select an image in the image gallery in the "Background" tab.

3. Save your changes in the "Edit" tab, with the "Save" button (don't mix this "Save" button with the "Save agenda" button).

Note that VideoPsalm prevents you from saving Bible changes by default.
You have to enable saving Bible changes first, in the VideoPsalm options -> "Bible" tab -> "Select "Save the changes that you possibly make to Bibles"

Does it work for you?

Should you have further questions, please feel free to ask.
For this purpose, please use the contact form, from where we can exchange email safely and I can also send screenshots, unlike here in these forums.

Hi,

When displaying verses from two English translations of the Bible (or different Bible translations) on the same slide, is it possible to indicate/differentiate them using the header/footer. Or could it be added in the next version of Videopsalm. e.g. below

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
King James Version

since all have sinned and continually fall short of the glory of God
Amplified Bible

Dear Marc,

Gods blessing be upon you and the team if you are working as a team.

I'm Yogesh from Mumbai, India. I have been using this software now for about 2 yrs had few quick responses from you. I have been promoting this software to every place I go.

Let me tell you I'm in Clarens,,Sounth Africa now. I have installed your software in the Diglabeng Church in Clarens. Here majority of people are either Europeans (English speaking) or the locals (Susutho speaking) the church people are so amazed that they can see bible in their own language.

I have also shared the details with one of the pastor from Phillipines and he is excited to use this software when they go back home.

Back in India, i have shared his software with many churches who are bilingual and they are gradually switching over to Video Psalm.

In April i'm gathering about 5-8 people and we are going to type roughly about 500-800 songs in bilingual. So for ex: This is Amazing grace will be displayed in English and in hindi. So hindi speaking people read in Hindi and sing in English. We already have about 125+ English songs and 100+ Hindi songs in bilingual style.

I'm more than happy to share if some one asks you such a thing.

I'm currently part of of a team which is translating bible in Devnagiri Sindhi, would love to share with you once we have done at least the New Testament.

You are doing an amazing thing Marc, bringing the Word of God to people in their own language. May the Lord bless you and enlarge your tents.

May Jesus bless your work on the Devnagiri Sindhi Bible translation. I am sure that it will enable many people to better know God and his perfect plan for rescuing mankind through Jesus.

Thanks so much for your effort.

Yes, the language in the link is Twi. Twi is a dialect of the Akan language. It is very very helpful
God bless you.

However, the Akan language has two main dialect; that is, Twi and Fante. The link you provided is the Twi version which
will be very useful to a section of our local congregation. If I am not acting a 'spoilt child' is there a way of getting the Fante
version?

As for the deuterocanonical books, you understand that my background makes me unable to accept your 'historical Hebrew
bible' explanation. Anyway, its still an enormous effort on your part to promote an effective service for the children of God.

God richly bless you once again

Greetings,

Is it possible to make the text percentage size automatic without word wrap? For example, if the line is too long, it automatically resizes instead of going to another line.

If yes (doesn't seem like it though), is it possible to make both languages of a bilingual slide use the smallest common percentage so that both languages are the same text size?

Thank you for this wonderful program which has helped us tremendously and also for any and all answers to these questions.

Does this feature behave like expected when displaying bilingual songs?

Hi Candela,

The reason why VideoPsalm displays a surrogate Bible verse is because this surrogate Bible is configured to always display with any other Bible verse.

To remove this settings:

1. Click the surrogate Bible.
2. In the middle panel, unselect the following option:
"Always display dualy"
3. Save your changes.

Hi Ubong,

Missing Bible verses
Thank you for reporting the problem.
The MSG versification merges some consecutive verses.
This means that all the Bible text is available, which is good.
It is up to the reader to "guess" where the verse finishes, and where the next one starts...
VideoPsalm respects this editor choice, and anyway it cannot adjust this.

Unfortunately I can not to use VideoPsalm for Bible for several reasons:
1. Many scripture is not the same by numbers like book of Psalms, Jobe and some others in Russian Synodal translation and English translations. In this case I prefer to use BibleShow5, amazing and comfortable program to display Bible, up to four translation in one window and all is match with showing book, chapter and verse in their language!

2. Bilingual display do not let to see header fields [Book name] [Chapter]:[Verse] for another language

3. When I search Book, Chapter AND THEN Verse I can not:
1. I can not go down or up in the chapter.
2. I can not to see whole chapter.
In this case I have to write only Book and Chapter and then only than manually go to the chapter in the right column and choose verse to display, this is very uncomfortable!

Generally very good program, thank you very mach for your work!

P.S. Also I would like ask you. For some reason, loop playback stops playing (like paused) as that moment cursor is moving, after seconds it starts playing again. I noticed it happens after editing. I'm trying million times to press save but doesn't help.

And again very uncomfortable thing, during editing I have to always keep focusing on type of editing and million times clicking Song in agenda or I have chance to edit (like background) only song verse but not the whole song.

I hope you everything understand.
Sorry for some critical comments.
Thank you so much and may God bless you abundantly in everything!

Hi Igor,

Thank you for your valuable feedback, it is much appreciated.

Here some answers to your suggestions:

Suggestion 1. Between Russian Synodal translations and English translations, some Bible books do not use the same chapter numbering (Psalms, Job, etc.)
-> This problem is in the list of things to correct in a future version.

Suggestion 2. Bilingual display do not let to see header fields [Book name] [Chapter]:[Verse] for another language
-> This problem is in the list of things to correct in a future version.

Suggestion 3.1 After selecting Bible verses, I cannot extend the selection to previous and next verses.
-> This problem is in the list of things to correct in a future version.

Suggestion 3.2 I cannot display the whole chapter.
-> To display the whole chapter, click on another chapter, then click the chapter again.
Hopefully this will be improved in a future version.

Suggestion 4. For some reason, loop playback stops playing (like paused) as that moment cursor is moving, after seconds it starts playing again.
-> This problem is solved in VideoPsalm 1.26.

Suggestion 5. Before modifying a style attribute, I have to set/check the style level
-> VideoPsalm uses the concept of cascading style attributes, enabling you to define in a few clicks the style at any level : song verse, song, songbook, all songbooks, base.

When you are about to change, let's say, the background, verify the "Style" section, in the top toolbar, at the left.
There will be a drop-down menu to select the level (verse-chapter-book-etc).
Make sure you select "Bibles", that way all the changes for background will apply to all Bibles you downloaded.

The following articles describe how to make best use of cascading styles:
(the articles often consider the background, however the same principle applies to all style settings like font, colors, font size, etc.)

For some reasons I had to have over 50 bibles installed, VideoPsalm doesn't show the end of the list so I can't access a lot of them. Is there a fix for this? Thank you.
