With VideoPsalms' backup function, you can easily build a portable version of VideoPsalm.

Here's how:

Click the “Backup” button on the “Edition” tab:

In the window that opens, enter the location where you want your portable VideoPsalm, for example on your USB drive.
In the example below, the USB key is represented by the G: drive.

Specify a specific folder, eg “VideoPsalm.” If this folder does not exist, the backup will automatically create it.

If you do not know the name of your USB key drive, click the “Choose a folder” button:

In the dialog box that opens, select your USB key and then press “OK”:

At this point, you are ready to create a backup of your VideoPsalms' documents on the USB drive.

If you want to create a portable VideoPsalm, check both boxes surrounded by red in the screenshot below, then click the “Start the backup” button:

Confirm the operation:

VideoPsalm proceeds to the backup. This should take one minute or two at most or a bit longer if VideoPsalm needs to download the Microsoft .NET Framework.

At the end of the backup,VideoPsalm informs you that everything went well:

Now you can start VideoPsalm on another PC from your USB drive.
Here are the content of the VideoPsalms' folder on the USB key:

Above, you can identify the VideoPsalm program. To start it, on another PC or on your own, double-click it.

In case the PC on which you want to start VideoPsalm doesn't have the Microsoft. NET Framework 4.0 installed, double-click first on the file named "dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe" and follow the instructions to install it.

Use the “Restore” function to restore songbooks, Bibles, images and videos from an USB key:

With the “Backup” function, you can easily create several clones of your songbook and Bibles library on your hard drive, in different folders.
You can also copy the VideoPsalms' executable files on a computers' hard drive. This way, you can start VideoPsalm directly from the PCs' hard drive, without the USB key.

When I try to do this, I get the error A folder name cannot contain the following characters: \/:&*?"<>| I'm not entering a folder name, just the thumb drive's H: that's entered when I select the drive. What do I do now???

Hello Linda,
Sorry for the late reply.
You get this error message because VideoPsalm is expecting a folder name.
Try for example with “H:\VideoPsalm”. If the folder doesn't exist, VideoPsalm will create it.

Hi Tricia,

Thank you for describing your use case.
It is a common scenario, and VideoPsalm handles it by default:
When you open an agenda file on the church PC, VideoPsalm adds to your church songbooks the new songs from the agenda.

Hi Sabz,

Absolutely:
The agenda file contains all what is necessary to reproduce the same presentation on another PC.

Please let me know if the following YouTube tutorial describes this task well:

Hi Emmitt,
VideoPsalm stores its documents in the following folder:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\VideoPsalm
The VideoPsalm backup copies the files from this folder (and its sub folders) to your backup medium.
You can also do this manually, with a Windows File Explorer.

However, it does not play DVD chapters directly.

I am replacing my pc and want to make sure I get all my songbooks saved to move to the new computer before the old computer crashes. My backup file doesn't list all of my songbooks. All they all there and just not showing in the backup file? Or if not, is there a way to specify what songbooks I want backed up?

Hi Karen,
Your backup contains all necessary files. It does not include the temporary files.
The backup always contains all songbooks.
It is not possible to specify which songbooks to include in the backup.

Trying to back up to a portable drive, it gets to about 25% then I get the error message: "Could not complete the backup: Access to the cloud is denied." What does this mean and how can I complete a backup to a memory stick, please? I've never been able to do this successfully. The memory stick is 4Gb. Thanks.

Hi Russell,

Thank you for your feedback.
It is unclear why you get such a message.
Maybe you are trying to backup VideoPsalm to a drive that is actually a cloud folder, that is currently unavailable.
Try instead to select a folder on a drive that is currently connected to the PC.
