Display live video stream as lyrics background

5/30/2015

When your PC has a video camera connected to it, you can tell VideoPsalm to display the live stream under the lyrics or under the Bible verses.
The "Camera" button is located to the top right, and is displayed only if VideoPsalm detected a video camera or a web cam when you started it:
Photo
The live video stream will show either on the live screen, or on the preview screen (when the live screen is not on).
Click the "Camera" button to instantly replace the current background with the live video stream:
Photo
It is recommended to hide the "Live Camera" button in case your PC has a web cam connected to it, so that the operator does not show his face by mistake on the big screen...
To hide the "Live video camera" button, disable the corresponding checkbox in the VideoPsalm options, in the "Customization" tab:
Photo
If your PC has several video cameras connected to it, you can select the required live video camera in the drop-down button.

Nice work you are doing sir.
i will like to suggest, when using the live video as background for bible, is it possible to get a separate background for the letters ?
to enable the letters to be more visible.
it will be great if you can make this possible.
Thanks.

Hi Victor,

By default, VideoPsalm displays text in plain white.
To add an highlight and a shadow to the text, use the color picker controls in the toolbar, in the "Text" tab, to the right of the "Colors" gallery.

Does it work for you?

I am checking out your system for the first time and I like it. I am a missionary in Korea.
I am using the 1.26 version and with the one click live video, the video feed with my webcam logitech 1080HD freezes. I tried a couple of times and I am afraid of connecting a 4k camera for sunday service. Is there a way around this?

Hi Gabriel,

Thank you for your feedback.
I also have a Logitech 1080HD web cam.
I don't know with what resolution exactly, but It can show its live video in VideoPsalm as a background.
Maybe try other settings and resolutions.
I tried several, and all of them worked.
I get an ffdshow app popup asking me if I want to use the ffdshow.
I answer yes, just this time (each time).
I installed following codecs, maybe this will help you too:

Hi Sir,

I am in the middle of reviewing a few worship presentation softwares for churches in Indonesia, and I think your software is one of the best candidate.

I still have a few questions as follow:
1. If the church computer using capture card, can it accept the input as live video feed?
2. Others than overlay live video feed with Songs & Bible verses, would it be possible to display our own text, at specific location (ie. ⅓ bottom of screen)?

Thank you.

Hi Prashanth,

To switch between the live video background and the verse style background, simply press the "Camera" button and switch its state: pressed/unpressed (see also first image in the blog article).

When the button is pressed, the live background has priority over the predefined verse background.

Does it work for you?

Additionally, let me know if the following articles explain well enough how to make best use of style levels and text margins:

Hello,

I just came across this software and it looks good for church service.
Our laptop has only one port for HDMI and I will like to project lyrics and bible verses to a TV monitor with an HDMI cable and also project live video from our camera having HDMI output.
How can I connect the camera to the laptop and at the same time connect to the monitor with this my "constraint".
Thank you as I await your reply.

Hi Dele,

Thank you for your question.

Alas I doubt that it is possible to use the same HDMI port to plug two devices simultaneously into it.

Note that some laptops have a second video port: VGA, HDMI or Display Port. So the idea is to use the VGA or Display Port to connect to the TV, and the HDMI to connect the video camera.

Which exact laptop model do you have?

Thanks so much for the information.

My laptop is HP 255 G3 AMD Dual Core-1.35ghz.

If I connect the video camera to the HDMI, do you mean the HDMI port acts as input for my camera?

I appreciate your help because I'm not so techie.

Thanks

Hi Dele,

Normally, the Notebook HDMI ports are output ports, not input ports.
It is possible to add extra hardware with HDMI input ports to a PC.

VideoPsalm link
12/10/2015 05:59:12 am

Hi Dele,

Your laptop has two video out connectors: an HDMI and a VGA.
This means that you can connect to the TV either via an HDMI or a VGA cable.
These connectors will not allow input from a video camera.

Usually, the video camera is connected to the PC via a USB cable.
To get the video camera to be detected from the PC, you need the software/driver from the video camera manufacturer, or some other compatible software.

Link to a free software for connecting a video camera to a PC:
http://alkenius.no-ip.org/Cam4you_remote/

Or google for "tethering video camera"

Hope this helps.

I know it's too late to explain now . Since i was browsing the website today itself.
Listen, I use CC camera (Also known as Security Camera - HIK vision Brand) as a live video, the output of laptop and Cc camera (DVR ) is connected to 3 input into one output to a projector/TV screen. So during hymns you switch to
Laptop and other time Live video

VideoPsalm will display the icon for live video if it detects that there is a video-camera or webcam connected to the PC.
Note that the button will only be available if you connected the video-camera before VideoPsalm was started.
Some video camera are properly detected by the PC only after installing their specific driver.
Please refer to your video-camera constructor web site for more specific instructions.

Hi, Im using HP G6 i3 processor. I run PsalmVideo on it and my only problem i see is that when clicking next verse or chorus the text delays on the screen. what could be the cause of the delay? I switched off crossfade on the effects panel.

Reply
VideoPsalm link
3/29/2016 01:35:30 pm

Hi Kamzar,

The latency on certain PCs is due to VideoPsalm rendering the lyrics (the text).

If the latency on your PC is too long, it is possible to reduce it with following methods:

1. Reduce the video projection screen resolution.
For example use 800x600 instead of 1280x1024.

2. Avoid the use of text styles involving a drop shadow.
The outline of the text does not interfere, it is the calculation of the drop shadow that takes a bit more time.

3. Use less text on the slides: Prefer shorter texts by cutting the long song verses in two or more slides.
To cut a verse in two, insert a line break at the right place.

The background images or animations (transitions) do not have much influence on the latency.
The expected latency requires to anticipate the display of the next verse, selecting the next slide one second or two in advance.

Most dslr cameras do not have a "Web cam" feature. Additionally, most PCs and laptops don't have an HDMI-in feature, but only an HDMI-out. This prevents you from connecting a video camera via HDMI. Some video cameras can connect to the PC via USB and have a "Web-cam" feature.

Hi Richard,

This will be possible in VideoPsalm 1.17.

The main new features of VideoPsalm 1.17 will be:

Support for (directly from the agenda):
- PDF
- Word
- LibreOffice Write and Calc
- Excel
- html
- live web sites (an internet connection is required)
- YouTube video (an internet connection is required)
- Standalone audio files with backgrounds
It will be possible to associate such files to a song in a permanent manner, and display them instead or along of the song lyrics, while being able to search for songs by their lyrics.
It won't be necessary to install a PDF reader, or Word, Excel, LibreOffice, etc. to display such content (except for already supported PowerPoints, for which Microsoft PowerPoint is required).
Hopefully it will have a "Stage view" feature, as well as other improvements.

There is no planed release date though, hopefully in early 2017.

Hello, nice work you're doing here with video Psalm. I have a question.

Recently, I have been researching on how to display live video recording from Android phone to PC. I've seen some breakthrough articles.

My question is, if the Android to PC live recording is successful, will VideoPsalm be able to detect the video from the Android and project it as background to text?

Thank you for your time.

Hi John,

As long as the live feed is detected by your Windows as a video camera, it is possible to display it under the text that VideoPsalm displays.

VideoPsalm 1.16 needs to be started *after* the video camera setup.

You will probably need to use a third-party software like VLC, that can simulate a video camera where the live feed comes from a Wifi device.

Hello CGD,

In order for your PC to recognize the video camera through the HDMI input, you may have installed some video camera driver or software, didn't you?

You may find a way to set the zoom factor in this video capture settings (not in VideoPsalm).

Hello, I am a youn member of my communication department (equivalent to A/V department) at my church. I would like to find out if there are possible transitions from the camera feed to the background in the form of a fade, slide etc... If not I am requesting/sugesting that it be added in an update.

On another not I mentioned that I am a young member of the A/V department. The other members simply work with what is there, which a few pirated versions of easyWorship. The leader has decided to let the church pay for a genuine copy. But I came across VideoPsalm. All this to say is there a vudeo or powerpoint training or tutorial which I could show to my the department to convince them to switch to VideoPsalm so the money to be spent on EasyWorship could be spent in other ways to further the gospel.

Note that common PCs and laptops have an HDMI-out port only.

More easily you can use a "web cam" connected via USB.

First of all this is an amazing and powerful software and God bless you guys for all your hard work.

I would like to request a new feature if possible regarding the Video output.

So we have a setup like this.

We have kept TV in mother's room (esp for mother's taking care of babies/toddlers) so that they dont miss out on worship and the sermon. So its good for them to see the video during worship along with the lyrics or see the preacher's video when the sermon is going on.

We have connected the same output in the Worship hall in 2 projectors.

Now we connect the video camera and overlay the lyrics/verse at all times and its very good. But lots of people had suggested that lots of times its very distracting during worship because of background video. People who are in main Worship hall need not see the stage video which is projected in projector and they just needs to see the lyrics on the screen.

What I would suggest is to have 1 more setting where you can have small live video area at bottom right of the screen and lyrics (with user set background) in remaining screen during worship time.

During the sermon time we can just click the button which makes the live video become small and go to bottom right and the verses gets displayed in remaining area of the screen.

Then you have both video and lyrics at the same time without any distraction :D

Thank you so much.

Your software is such a blessing. I have been telling so many people about it. Keep up the GREAT work.

I did have a great feature, that if you could add would be a great asset. This new feature would allow us to add a Live Video (Video Camera) to a single song. At times I do not have anyone running VideoPsalm, so I use a presenter to move between the items on the agenda. When I don't have anyone running it, I can't use the live video feature. If you would allow us to add a Live Video (Video Camera) to just selected songs, than when I use the presenter to move to the targeted agenda it will automatically show the live video. This would be so helpful.

I'm using 1.21 currently. When do you plan on releasing a new version?

Thanks

Hi,
I solved the videopsalm to projector issue...however, I tried to connect my camcorder using video capture device to the laptop to show on the projector, but so far, it only shows dark black screen on the projector.
Please advise, thank you very much.

Hi Freddy,

I am glad that you solved your projector issue.

VideoPsalm will detect the video camera if the camera has the "live feed" (or "web cam") feature.
Usually, the connection is done via a USB port, or a specific HDMI-IN port.
Note that PCs and laptops usually have HDMI-OUT ports only.
However, make sure to first connect the video camera to the PC, and then only start VideoPsalm.
Does it works for you?

Hi Videopsalm,
your software has been a blessing to my church. I wanted to thank you for all your hardwork.

I have a question: Will there ever be an option where you can switch between multiple live feeds of the sermon?

Again thanks for this awesome program!

Hi Roberto,

To switch between multiple webcams, press the small "Down" button to the right of the "Webcam" button, and select it.
All available webcams are displayed in there.
The webcams must be connected BEFORE you start VideoPsalm, as there is no "Refresh" button at the moment...

Hi Jo,

There nothing specific to VideoPsalm to life stream it on Facebook or YouTube.
If necessary, you can also use OBS (free app).

Please send me an email at my gmail account.

Thank you for requesting a recording feature.
I added this feature to the list of things to do, and depending on popular demand, it will be implemented in a future version.

Hi John,

Basically yes.

VideoPsalm enables live-stream to YouTube, Facebook, etc. using standard and free tools like OBS Studio.
The setup mainly takes place in OBS Studio or vMix and Facebook or YouTube.

In VideoPsalm:
1. Enable the presentation screen window icon in the VideoPsalm options:
Open the VideoPsalm options -> "Presentation screen" tab -> "Display the presentation screen icon in the taskbar".
For this change to be applied, please close then restart VideoPsalm.

The toolbar Presentation icon is useful for OBS Studio when selecting a source from the VideoPsalm presentation "window" or when using the Windows 10 virtual desktop feature.
Alternatively, as an OBS source, you can select the "monitor" where VideoPsalm displays its presentation.

2. Setup VideoPsalm to display the lyrics at the bottom of the screen.
This is sometimes called "lower third" or "subtitles mode".
http://myvideopsalm.weebly.com/1/post/2013/11/how-to-adjust-slide-text-margins.html

The live stream setup is done in 2 steps:

1. Connect Facebook to OBS Studio via a "Stream key": Facebook provides you with a "Stream key" that you pass-on to OBS Studio.
2. Connect OBS Studio to VideoPsalm via the OBS Studio "Source": In OBS Studio, create a new "Source" and select "Window", and select the VideoPsalm presentation screen.

These 2 steps are described in the following video tutorial from EasyWorship:

Hi, from Vanuatu... I would like to thank you for the great Job you have done. We are using this software for about 4 years in our small Church in Port Vila. We have tried several applications but finally we have found this that matches and covers all we want.
I can see in this, the great Love of God in you, not in words neither in tongues but in deed and in truth. (1 John 3: 16-18) . God Bless you.

It is possible to use your phone as a webcam.
If I remember correctly, you can achieve this with the ManyCam app.

Hi Gladwin,
If you have Windows 10 or Windows 11, create what is called a virtual desktop and set the VideoPsalm presentation screen to this desktop.
In this case, you will not need an external monitor.

Note that it is always a good thing to have a physical external monitor.

Hi Jefri,
Depending on your PC graphic card and other components, the rendering of real time video elements may lag.
If this happens, try to reduce the screen resolution and the frame rate.

Hi, We love VideoPsalm. We are very much grateful.
We are a small church in Bangalore, India. We've been using Video Psalm for lyrics and video presentations for a long time and it has been great. But since we are Live streaming now, we need to add lyrics and bible verses to our live stream as lower thirds. Can you please let us know if it's possible? If yes, how do we do it?
