Display Bible verses quickly, the way you want them to be (bilingual, several verses on one slide, etc.)

5/10/2014

Here is a list of tricks that will enable you to display Bible verses very quickly, and in the way you want them to be:

It is usually preferable to select the full chapter instead of the exact verse.
Selecting the full chapter has the advantage that previous and next verses are available at hand, in case the pastor reads before or after the mentioned reference.
For example, instead of selecting only Romans 3.23, select Romans 3 (full chapter).
All verses of Romans 3 get added to the slides panel (at the top-right).
Then, click on the verse 23 in the slide panel (you may need to scroll the list to reach the desired verse).

Note  You don't need to double-click a slide to display it: a single click will do.
Usually, you will not need to double-click to use any feature of VideoPsalm.

Nothing beats the keyboard, and surely not a mouse: To speed things up, use the keyboard.
To display a Bible verse with the help of the keyboard only:
  • Type Alt+B to select your Bibles tab (only necessary if the Bible tab is not selected).
  • Type Ctrl+F to focus the search field.
  • Type the Bible verse reference, for example Romans 3.23.
Note  You only need to type-in the first few/two letters of the Bible book: VideoPsalm will instantly expand the Bible book.
  • Type "Enter" or "Return" to instantly display the first verse live.

Note  It is recommended to add any displayed Bible verses to the agenda so that:
  • You can keep track of which verses have been displayed during the service.
  • To go back to them even faster than typing their reference again.
  • Sometimes the pastor doesn't mention the reference exactly again: If you have it in the agenda, you may be able to display it again.

To add the selected verses to the agenda, click the "Add" button or press the "Insert" or "Pause" key.

Display the right translation
Some languages have Bibles available in several translations, for example English has 20+ available translations.
In case the pastor uses another Bible translation than the one you selected, but you don't know exactly which one it is, you can click on other available Bible translations. VideoPsalm instantly replaces the current slides text by those of the new translation, enabling you to select it life quite fast. You can perform this during the time where the pastor starts reading the first few words of the verses.

Display bilingual verses
If your church is multicultural, you may want to display the Bible verses in one ore more languages.
Let me know if this blog article explains how to do it well enough:
http://myvideopsalm.weebly.com/1/post/2013/04/how-to-display-verses-from-two-different-bible-translations-on-the-same-slide.html

Automatically display bilingual verses
You may want to always display Bible verses in two (or more) languages.
Lets consider the example where you always want to display the French translation under your English translation.
These are the steps to set the French Bible as an additional translation that will always be displayed under any other translation:

  • Click on the French Bible to select it:
Picture
  • The middle panel now displays the Bible properties.
    Select the highlighted checkbox:
Always display dualy (bilingual)

Optional  To help the people to easily visually dissociate both translations on the screen, assign a specific style to the additional translation, for example another text color and font.
  • Click on the French Bible to select it (or any Bible for this purpose).
Make sure that the style level is set to "Bible":
Picture
Then, select another text color, for example yellow:
Picture
Then, select another font style, for example italic.

You will get the following display:

Put several Bible verses together on the same slide

Search for Bible verses by keywords
To swap between Bible reference selection or keyword search, click on the icon at the left of the search field:

Hi Dorothy,

It is not possible to automatically display several verses on one slide at the moment.
This feature has been frequently asked, and stands in good place in the list of things to do.

At the moment, the recommended solution is to convert the Bible passage into a song, and edit it in the lyrics editor. like described here:

How to put several Bible verses on a single slide or split a long verse in two slides

Does this work for you?

How do I edit multiple bible verses at once instead of clicking each verse and editing it to the font size that I want?

I think you can probably edit all the verses of a particular Bible by clicking on the Bible's name and then going to edit and change the font or size; I think this could be saved when you close the agenda and would then display in that format each time. If you only want to change it for a particular passage, you may have to do each verse separately.

Hi Trudi,

VideoPsalm uses the concept of cascading style attributes, enabling you to define in a few clicks any style attribute at any level : song verse, song, songbook, all songbooks, base.

Please let me know if the following articles explain well enough how to make best use of cascading styles:

Hello,
Suggestion: It would be nice if there was a way to highlight or underline a word in the verse instead of the whole verse. Moreover, a options where the bible verse can display 2 or more verses on screen.

Also, I hope the Expanded, Living and Tree of Life bibles will ne added soon.

Thanks

Hi Xeria,
To highlight or underline a word:
1. Add the Bible verse to the agenda.
2. Convert the Bible verse selection into a "song".
3. Highlight the specific words in the song lyrics editor like described here:
https://myvideopsalm.weebly.com/blog/videopsalms-lyrics-and-chords-editor

To display several Bible verses on one slide, please let me know if the following article describes this task well enough:

This will be improved in a future version.

Thank you for requesting the Expanded Bible and Living Bible.
They will be added whenever possible.

Note that the Tree of Life Bible translation is already available in the VideoPsalm online library.

Hi Eziuche,

The VideoPsalm default font, "Candara", does not contain all Igbo characters, thus displaying small squares with a question mark inside.
To display Igbo Bible text, you need to select a font containing all Igbo characters.
The "Segoe UI" is such a font.
Please let me know in case of any further difficulty.

Hi, VideoPsalm is Awesome.

This is more of a Feature request,

I really love using keyboard more than a mouse, now in displaying a verse I know I can type say, Ps 119v100 and Enter/Return and the verse will directly be projected.

The feature I'm requesting a way to also display the following verses after verse 100, or to project verse 100 while loading the whole chapter on the preview panel for easy navigation to previous or following verses

What I do now is to type say, Ps118v100-200 then Enter/Return to do the trick for having following verses on the preview, but that's more typing.
I will be more happy t just type say Ps118v100- (with the dash/minus sign at the end) then Enter/Return

SECONDLY

We are a Bilingual Church with an interpreter, and the pastor reads the scripture on the screen but the interpreter has to open the Bible manually thus left behind often. The Bilingual display is not very great for us especially when you encounter a long verse.

Can a future version have a feature for a second projector? That is we get external video card for a laptop to be able to connect two external screens, then set VideoPsalm to project two different languages on separate screens.

THIRDLY

I'm using VideoPsalm to display Lower Thirds as Message Tittles with animated video backgrounds which is very great.

Please include a way to add a delay for displaying text above the background. That is When I set a tittle with a background, when clicked for projection, I would want to have the background display first then the text to follow (delayed text)

THANK YOU, AND GOD BLESS YOU

Hi Humphrey,

1. Entering Bible reference with the keyboard
Thank you for requesting a better Bible verse selection.
I added this feature to the list of things to do.

2. Bilingual display on second monitor
I also added this feature to the list of things to do.
However this is not an easy task and will take some time to come out.

3. Delay before displaying the text.
I also added this feature to the list of things to do.
At the moment, you could try the following:
Add a first empty verse, by adding a blank (a space) on an empty line, followed by an new line.
This way, VideoPsalm will display the first slide with only the background. Then press "Down" to display the text from the first slide over the background.
Does this work for you?

Thank you for the reply and adding my requests on your to-do list.

About your suggestion on my third request, I can see myself doing it though it won't be as smooth and consistent. But again in churches we have a lot of volunteers which makes to teach all of them these tricks difficult.

Again, VideoPsalm is by far most useful software for our church. Thanks

Good afternoon videopsalm.... I really appreciate the work you guys are doing. Its not up to 2 months since I stared using videopsalm and I must say i'm really getting conversant with the amazing features in this app.... My best feature is the quick edit line the word processing app, and the phrase search for scriptures it has; but there are a few challenges am facing now :
1. is the issue of my MSG Translation... I noticed that my message Bible has alot of chapters with incomplete verses.....for instance john 3: doesn't have verse 2..... I even thought the fault was from my version (maybe i might have touched something)...... I went further to install a fresh copy on a friend system and downloaded the MSG translation to it..... I still had the same experience on it....

2. I suggest that the search feature should be advanced to a way that when someone searches for any phrase the search engine searches all the bible translation one has in his videopsalm, instead of searching on the translation selected at the moment.

3. Is it possible to edit the aspect ratio for only one image in the background tab among all images, cos there are some images i send to video psalm and it cuts out some part in the edges when projected.

Reply
VideoPsalm link
7/29/2020 05:36:54 am

Hi Ubee,

1. Missing Bible verses
Thank you for reporting the problem.
The MSG versification merges some consecutive verses.
This means that all the Bible text is available, which is good.
It is up to the reader to "guess" where the verse finishes, and where the next one starts...
VideoPsalm respects this editor choice.

2. Bible search feature extended to all Bibles
Thank you for your suggestion, it makes a lot of sense.
I added it to the list of things to do and depending on popular demand, it will be implemented in a future version.

3. VideoPsalm cuts image borders when the aspect ration is different
Yes.
Since VideoPsalm 1.26, it is possible to zoom slide show images.
This is not possible for background images.
Please use an image editor like Paint or Paint.Net to manually adjust images with different aspect ratios.

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me out. Most of my bible versions apear with a white background, and the font is also white the moment i select it. Then I have to select the background. Is there a way to simply have all of the bible versions white one specific background (preselected) so that I do not have to change it each time?

My second question, is there a way to restart the “cascade” on a song. If the song was placed under one background, but then different backgrounds were selected for each “verse” of the song, is there a way to simply go back to the “song” background selection without having to change each verse afterwards.

Thank you so much!!

Humphrey

For the first question,
When you are about to change the background, check the "style" section there will be a drop-down menu to select the level (verse-chapter-book-etc) make sure you select "Bibles" that way all the changes for background will apply to all Bibles you downloaded.

This also will apply to your second question,
Just change the background after selecting the level to "Song"

In all of the two, select the verse to display, then go back and change the style level to Bibles or Song then change the background

Hi Lenna and Humpfrey,

The following article describes the task for your second question:
How to remove an image assigned to a song verse
http://myvideopsalm.weebly.com/blog/how-to-remove-an-image-assigned-to-a-song-verse

VideoPsalm uses the concept of cascading style attributes, enabling you to define in a few clicks the style at any level : song verse, song, songbook, all songbooks, base.

The following articles describe some cascading styles scenarios (the articles often consider the background, however the same principle applies to all style settings like font, colors, font size, etc.):

Well, you may use Videopsalm in edit-mode. Now when you select a verse you want, on the center (edit panel) you may delete the parts you don't want and select the required part to display it.

CAUTION;
Make sure in settings you have selected videopsalm not to save any edits made on Bibles on closing the software. Otherwise the edit you made may be permanent which is not good.

Though even if that is not set, on closing, you will be asked if you want to save changes made in Bibles. You choose no. But this is risk as our minds are familiar in selecting YES

Please give more details. As default videopsalms displays the book chapter and verse. What do you mean by "bible part"?

If you select the tab "Bible" next to "Songbooks" and nothing appears, it means you have no Bibles installed. Switch to edit mode, under edit tab click "import" and follow the options to import a Bible.

Otherwise try to be more specific and detailed on your issue
